Colds/ do you have head or chest colds anymore?/

I have not had a chest cold for years and have not have head one for a few. I have had SS for over 20 years now. so why don:t I have head colds???? I am not any medication for SS but do take vitamins and I do have an anti infamatory gel that I rub over my muscles and joints I have suffered from inflammation in my lungs and also have tremors in both my legs,I

It's probably just coincidental. I have school aged kids in the home, so clearly I have more exposure. It seems as though the dry membranes make people somewhat more at risk for colds.

For me, I overall get fewer colds since I started taking DMARDs for my psoriatic arthritis, but I have a much harder time getting rid of them.

Interesting question.

Not for everyone. And normal meds? People take different meds. Yes, some people will have greatly increased susceptibility. Other people may not. Again, this is all individual.

Anyway, the original poster was pointing out a lack of chest colds and head colds. My point is that this is likely more due to changes in exposure, rather than anything else. Exjbnz pointed out that s/he does not take any medication for SS.

flu shot?

Are you asking if people get one? Yes, I do religiously.

I clearly need help in this arena. I had/have Lupus … now in remission, but currently I have SS full blown. I am 50+, female. My dry mouth and dry eyes are not terrible…my OTC drops and Biotene toothpaste for the most part take care of it. BUT, I am catching bad colds easily. At the moment, I have something that is frightening me. While out of town for Thanksgiving , I was around little children and caught what seemed to be a sore throat and cold. I went to a clinic and was given a zpack. This did not help. Then I was coughing badly and had some blood come up. I went to a local clinic and was given Amoxocilin (sp?). My GP just says to go to the ER when I try to get help. Anyway, I seem to be improving ever so slightly…very very very slowly…and I’m concerned about the frequency of these things and how slowly I am improving. Are bad colds, both sinus and chest (likely bronchitis) common with SS and can I get some advice. Sadly, I have problematic doctors.

SS can involve the lungs. Mine started with frequent bronchitis and ended up with bronchiectasis (an interstitial lung disease where the bronchi get stretched and you can't bring up secretions and can cause infections). If you get frequent bouts of bronchitis, might be time to get a referral to a pulmonologist.

You have to hold on.

I have to be careful with my lungs. When I get sick it takes a long while to better, usually months, sometimes it gets closer to 9-12 months. One medication that seems to help me allot is Advar. Always gargle/brush your teeth, or drink alot after every use. This will help wash away the excess medication in your mouth. It's a combination of Sarevent and a steroid.

It can cause other issues especially if you are on or have been on anti-biotics very recently. Both of these medications can cause Thrush (an oral fungal infection). It's kind of rare for a person with a healthy immune system to get Thrush but many of us don't fall into that category. So, compromised immune system + anti-biotics + Advar (can) = Thrush. I had a big problem with this for awhile, but in addition to all of the above I was also using a full face mask with my CPAP machine.

At the time I thought the full face mask would be better for me because of the humidifier attached. The ENT explained that there was so much air moving across my mouth at night, that this was actually making the problem worse.

I have been back of Advar for a month now and no Thrush yet (knock on wood). But I'm not on any anti-biotics and I'm using a nasal only mask (this is my favorite mask so far).

The plus side is it really does make a difference. About a month ago I got a head cold with a lot of sinus pressure and drainage. A day or two into it I noticed it was moving into my lungs. I immediately started the Advar again and it stopped the congestion before it took hold. The last few days my lungs have felt a little weird. I just saw the Dr. today and she said I sound great, I'm doing exactly what she thinks I should be doing, and to just keep an eye out for any change.

So, hopefully I caught it in time and I won't get phenomena. This is my first time trying the Advar so early, but normally by now I would be really sick.

It has been 2 yrs since I was diagnosed with sjogrens. All dr was concerned with at the time was the dryness. But I seem to be progressing fast, and at this point my lungs are getting real bad with no help in sight. I have my primary dr, who dragged her feet when I kept complaining of the muscle pain and spasms. Then finally referred me to Rheumatoid specialist. She is the one who discovered my sjogrens and fibromyalgia. Also my arthritis. With constant lung infections and breathing problems,my primary kept treating me for asthma. Which I do have, but not as bad as it was getting. I was in her office every month . now she has reffered me to a pulmonologist, who is still trying to figure out why I am not getting well. Hello? Could it be sjogrens? He had never even heard of it til I saw him. But he is such a good caring, kind and patient dr, and insists he is going to help me. Still, no help in sight. Just had my second ctscan, will see him Thursday. Lets see what he comes up with now. Til then, I am so thankful for this subject about the lungs. It is my worst complaint so far. The pain is few and far between for now. Was a time when it was constant. I seem to be doing well since the cold is gone. Good ol southern California!

I live with my grand children and are exposed to colds all the time, although to prove a point, recently a really bad cold, that is going around, And I had a head cold, and exactly how you would feel having a headcold but with no mucus, at all it lasted for 5 days, all symtoms except for the mucus I know that SS can go to a persons brain, does that mean that it dries it out of the mucus

Yes because I do not I have not had one for years a chest cold, and I recently had a head cold that felt like a head cold but no mucus at all came out, Ihave been diagnoised with SS for 20 years plus now, so I am thinking I started out getting really bad head and chest colds and now nothing, does this meant that my system through out my body is drying out completely??????

I’m getting colds and sinusitis frequently (when visiting family in another city). My ENT said I might have low immunity issues. I’m seeing an allergist/immunologist soon. ENT says I might need gamma glObulin shots. Has anyone heard of SS patients taking GG shots? Anything holistic we can do to resist upper respitory infections??

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19078096 These look positive for the AMA treatments, though pricey!

Here is one holistic view:

http://www.achooallergy.com/dr-ivker-holistic-sinusitis-treatment.asp

BTW, never heard of a nasal spray with colloidial silver, but have used them with aloe or grapefruit seed extract. They were good!

I have allergies, the worst are dust and indoor/outdoor mold, however the weed, tree, and grass can give me a fit in spring, and it ALWAYS ends in bronchitis!

Weird question; don’t know great place to put it. Isn’t saline just salt water??? Why are we suppose to try/use it to lubricate the sinuses? Wouldn’t it dry the sinuses up? Why would salt do the opposite???
